Q: DO SOME COLORS LAST LONGER THAN OTHERS?
A: Not necessarily, although light colors show wear less visibly and require less frequent maintenance.Any Staron® Solid Surfaces color should provide many years of dependable service.
Q: HOW DO I CARE FOR STARON® SOLID SURFACES ON A DAILY BASIS?
A: Just wipe clean using soap and water. Ammonia-based cleaners, such as glass cleaner, give the surface a streak-free shine. Visit the Care and Maintenance section of this manual for additional information.

Q: IS STARON® SOLID SURFACES HYGIENIC?
A: Staron® Solid Surfaces solid surface is inherently a nonporous material with smooth,impenetrable seams. Unlike other surfaces such as laminate, tile and granite, Staron® Solid Surfaces has no grout lines or ridges to trap dirt and germs. This exceptionally smooth surface makes Staron® Solid Surfaces easy to clean.Staron® Solid Surfaces can be fabricated as one continuous surface, such as a countertop,backsplash and sink, to further reduce areas for bacteria to grow.

Q: HOW DO I REPAIR A SCRATCH OR CUT?
A: Scratches and cuts can be buffed away with a light duty scrubbing pad and a mild abrasive cleanser.

Q: WILL REPAIRING OR REFINISHING STARON® SOLID SURFACES REVEAL A DIFFERENT COLOR THAT WON'T MATCH THE REST OF THE COUNTERTOP?
A: Staron® Solid Surfaces solid surface is homogenous, meaning it's the same color and the same material throughout. That's why repairing scratches is so easy and why the surface will continue to look like new.

Q: WHAT EDGE TREATMENTS AND OTHER SPECIAL OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
A: There are several edge treatments that you can incorporate with your countertop design. Edge profiles are included in the Staron® Solid Surfaces product brochure as well as on the Website, www.staron.com. If you don't see the edge treatment you have in mind, talk to your local builder or fabricator.In addition to edge treatments, color inlays can be incorporated as well as special features such as heat rails next to stoves for hot items and routed drainage channels leading to the sink.

Q: HOW LONG WILL STARON® SOLID SURFACES LAST?
A: With proper care and maintenance, your Staron® Solid Surfaces countertops will last for many years. Staron® Solid Surfaces is considered a renewable material and can be refinished to look like new. Staron® Solid Surfaces is backed by a 10-year limited warranty.

Q: WHAT FINISHES ARE AVILABLE IN STARON® SOLID SURFACES COUNTERTOPS?
A: Staron® Solid Surfaces can be finished with matte, semigloss and high-gloss finishes.Distributors can help recommend the finish that best suits your use.

Q: CAN YOU CUT DIRECTLY ONTO STRON?
A: Cutting directly on Staron® Solid Surfaces countertops is not recommended because it can scratch or cut the surface.

Q: WHILE PREPARING MEAS, CAN I PLACE RAW VEGETABLES AND MEATS ON STARON?
A: Yes. Because Staron® Solid Surfaces is nonporous, germs and bacteria have nowhere to accumulate. In fact, Staron® Solid Surfaces is one of just a few surfaces approved for food preparation areas in restaurants.Before preparing a meal, make sure the surface is clean. Do not allow other food to come into contact with a surface where raw meat has been placed until the surface is thoroughly cleaned,preferably with a weak bleach solution.

Q: WILL STARON® SOLID SURFACES FADE?
A: No. The acrylic resins used in Staron® Solid Surfaces are unaffected by the ultraviolet rays present in natural light, so it will not fade.
Q: CAN I PLACE HOT PANS DIRECTLY ONTO STARON?
A: Staron® Solid Surfaces is heat-resistant and will remain stable and undamaged up to 212¨degree F.However, high heat or flame can damage the surface. In most cases it can be repaired.To protect the countertop, always use a heat pad or trivet. You can also request addition of heatrails near a stove where hot pans can be placed without worry.

Q: IS STARON® SOLID SURFACES EVER USED IN FLOORING?
A: Solid surface is not intended to be used as a flooring material, though it has been used in stair treads. Even then, only colors with large particulate are used to hide wear and scratches.

Q: WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF STARON® SOLID SURFACES OVER GRANITE?
A: If granite is not sealed regularly, it can become stained and harbor bacteria, viruses and mold.Seams in granite are also difficult to keep clean. Staron® Solid Surfaces is nonporous with smooth, impenetrable seams to prevent unwelcome germs and mildew.Staron® Solid Surfaces is also more impact-resistant than granite, and custom designs are easier to fabricate.

Q: WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF STARON® SOLID SURFACES LAMINATES?
A: Laminates may separate over time if exposed to moisture. Staron® Solid Surfaces is solid and homogenous, impenetrable to moisture.Laminates may also be damaged easily by nicks and cuts, and cannot be repaired like Staron.

Q: WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF STARON® SOLID SURFACES OVER TILE?
A: Tile has many seams where bacteria, viruses and mold can accumulate. Grout between tiles must be cleaned frequently and often cracks.Staron® Solid Surfaces has smooth, impenetrable seams, is more impact-resistant than tile, and offers many more edge treatments.

Q: IF I BUFF OUT A SCRATCH OR STAIN WITH A LIGHT-DUTY SCRUBBING PAD, AND THE AREA IS NOT AS GLOSSY AS THE REST OF THE COUNTERTOP, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
A: The finer the grit of cleaner or scrubber you use, the higher the gloss. For the highest gloss finishes, use a finer grit such as a white polishing compound with water and try to blend it with the rest of the countertop. Buff and dry with a smooth cloth.

Q: CAN I ADD A STARON® SOLID SURFACES SINK OR BOWL TO MY EXISTING STARON® SOLID SURFACES COUNTERTOP?
A: It is possible, but depends on the style of sink and the details of the existing installation. Check with your local fabricator.

Q: DO I NEED TO CHOOSE A SINK AND FAUCET BEFORE MY COUNTERTOP IS INSTALLED?
A: Though there are some common fixture sizes, we highly recommend selecting the sink and faucet before your custom countertop is created by a fabricator.

Q : THE EDGE TREATMENT I HAVE IN MIND ISN'T SHOWN ON THE STARON® SOLID SURFACES WEBSITE OR IN THE BROCHURES. ARE THEE OTHER EDGE TREATMENTS
TO CHOOSE FROM?
A : Absolutely. We've provided examples of common edges that most fabricators are equipped to build. Talk to your local builder or fabricator to get precisely the edge treatment you have in mind.

Q : WHO SHOULD I GET TO INSTALL MY STARON® SOLID SURFACES COUNTERTOP?
A : Staron® Solid Surfaces is installed by licensed fabricators who have been specially trained to work with this unique product. Using a licensed fabricator ensures that your countertop will be properly installed and under full warranty.

Q : CAN I PURCHASE SHEETS OF SOLID SURFACE AND INSTALL IT MYSELF?
A : To ensure quality installation and full warranty, Staron® Solid Surfaces is only available to licensed fabricators.
Q: THE FABRICATOR LEFT ME A SMALL PIECE OF STARON® SOLID SURFACES TO USE AS A CUTTING BOARD, BUT I'VE HEARD I SHOULDN'T CUT ON STARON. CAN I USE THE BOARD?
A: As a separate piece, Staron® Solid Surfaces makes a great cutting board. However, cutting leaves small scratches on the surface that you absolutely wouldn't want on your countertop.

Q: I'VE READ THAT HOT PANS CAN SCORCH SOLID-SURFACE MATERIALS. WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT HEAT DAMAGE?
